Reason for PR4

Yesterday I checked the backlinks for my UK site again and I realized that there actually is a reason why a PR4 has been assigned to it. It’s the Spreadshirt Hive which basically is a compilation blogs run by Spreadshirt or its employees. Therefore this blog is included, too. However all my other sites aren’t. But still they appear to be somehow connected to the hive via my blog. I don’t get it at all but when it comes to the Page Rank question I don’t mind too much although it kinda makes me suspicious ;)

The green bar moved!

It’s no secret anymore that there’s another Page Rank update going on at the moment. I was and I still am hoping for some improvent on my German websites. However nothing’s happened so far.
But then it hit me. When Peter dropped me a message that there was a Page Rank of 4 shown on my UK site. What’s going on? There are almost no links pointing to that website. Only two quite weak ones which were meant to index the site on Google when I launched it.
Also I read that the current update is supposed to be based on data from the beginning of December. I just registered the 6th of December. I find that weird and I still don’t trust it.

By the way: in case you don’t know how the PR is calculated, Philipp Lenssen makes it quite clear.

Basics of SEO

Philipp Lenssen just published a very good article that targets webmasters who just like to begin optimizing their websites for search engines. It’s worth a read.

$16 million Wickedfire offer

It’s barely six months ago that I introduced Jon’s webmaster forum Wickedfire.com in this blog.
It has become quite interesting and benefits from a lot of members who are willing to share really useful knowledge. 3.500 members have created around 90.000 posts so far.
Now Jon claims that he has received a $16 million offer to buy his forum. Woohoo, I never know what to believe this guy as everything he says seems kinda extreme. Even more suspicious: he turned down the offer.
However it reminds me of this weeks super-deal: the largest german student social community, studiVz, has been sold to Holtzbrinck for moreless € 90 million which, I think, is hugh and crazy. Interesting to see how much money online start-ups can be worth without even generating any money so far.

Keyword diagnosis tool

In case anyone knows a tool which shows me the exact keywords a visitor used to get to the website please let me know. Google Analytics only covers that for organic traffic. However I’d like to know which keyword combination my visitors type in that trigger my AdWords ads.
For example if I used the broad match keyword ‘car’ I’d like to know whether they were looking for ‘car dealer’ or ‘i never want to get a car’. Something like that.
